The first Christian Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the late Dr Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, with the consent of his I-command introduced subsidy for Christians of the state for their pilgrimages to Jerusalem and Holy Land.
That was Rs. 25,000 per person.
The government invited applications from Christians for construction of churches for which Rs. 2 lakhs would be given for each construction.
He also introduced a gift of Rs. 20,000 for every Christian marriage. There were several score government orders granting money for construction and repair of Churches & Mosques.
These were appealed against through Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the High Court. The High Court stayed the government orders.
The Andhra Pradesh government appealed to the Supreme Court and after a year or so the stay was vacated. The subsidies and grants have been resumed. The PIL has not come for substantial hearing.
7. The Government of Andhra Pradesh gave Rs. 10 cr for construction of a Haj House in the center of Hyderabad from the government funds. It is now giving another Rs. 10 cr for construction of a second Haj House at the new international airport in Shamshabad.
8. While the Churches and Mosques of Christians & Muslims are not managed and administered by the Government of Andhra Pradesh over 30,000 Hindu temples are managed & administered by the GOAP. The Tirupati temple of Lord Venkateswara gets over Rs. 2000 cr every year and the other temples get about Rs. 600 cr .
There are about 30,000 government employees in the Hindu Religious Endowment Department which controls the Hindus temples. 14% of the temples revenues are taken into a Common Good Fund (CGF) which is administered totally by the Chief Minister alone. The Hindu Religious Endowment Department is made to give Rs. 30 laksh every year to the Mecca masjid in Hyderabad
